Our first Supporting Young People with Dementia webinar went well last week and we came away with an action list and we’re already contacting people to get their views and input on how to move this forward and create groups (most likely virtual for now). We are running the webinar again on 28th October at 2pm. Please do join us and have your say in this vital discussion. You can book your free space here. If you’d like to be more involved please contact us on email@example.com.
Next month, it’s our Happy Days memory cafe’s 5th Birthday! Obviously, we can’t meet in person this year but we thought it might be nice if people shared their memories of Happy Days for us to post online on our actual birthday. Please do email us or post on our Happy Days Facebook page.
This month’s Happy Days activity is to do some artwork! Have fun and share with us on the Facebook post.
The Age UK support hub for older people is available on 0117 929 7537. Lots of support available eg shopping, collecting prescriptions, companion calls.
We thought we’d give a shout-out to Wecil and their advocacy support. They have also just launched a Telephone Check in and Chat Service for disabled adults, those who are shielding and have long term health conditions . WECIL Telefriend volunteers will make weekly calls, of around 20 minutes, to a member of our community for a period of six weeks. Speaking to the same person each week, the Telefriend volunteer will make friendly conversation, lend a supportive ear and signpost to services. If you would like to receive Check in and Chat calls, or would like to make a referral, please fill in this short form https://bit.ly/WECILCheckinandchat and the project worker, Charlotte, will contact you for further information. If you have any questions or would like to discuss the service, contact Charlotte the new Befriending Project worker at Charlotte.Heath@wecil.co.uk or on 07973686389
Please help us to publicise Dunk a Donut for Dementia! on 20th October. Contact us if you would like us to email (or post) some posters. Please join us in the evening at 7.30pm for a celebration zoom call – you can book your free space here.
Please support this great initiative by Alive Activities if you can. They are fundraising for a disabled toilet for their garden allotment. Full details here.
Please could you sign this important petition – it is to lobby the government to enable Social Care organisations to reclaim VAT on supplies, even though VAT is not charged on services. It’s amazing that this law still needs changing.
Amanda at BRACE needs your help – she needs lots of pictures of pets (any type of pet) who live with people who are connected to dementia and research. Please see her email for further details and contact information.
We thought you might be interested in this Free Conference on: Health Inequalities in Older People, A Time for Change, Wednesday 21st October. 9.30-12.30pm.
You might also be interested in this free online BHM event – ” Black Lives Matter – Reforming the Norm” on Saturday 17th October 2pm to 3.30pm – information here.
We thought you might be interested in Musical Teas which are a fun way to raise awareness of the power of personal playlists for people living with dementia. Over two decades of scientific research has shown that listening to a personal playlist can improve the lives of people living with the condition. Connecting through music is at the heart of a Musical Tea and there’s loads of ways to get involved. See this email for further information.
